This P-38 crash in the Pasayten that was only found about 10 years ago is a fascinating story. There are several more articles you can find.

There is a well known B17 crash site with wreckage off of the Tubal Cain Mine trail.
I got harrassed by some or one of the ghosts from that crash site. Well I hope they were from that crash. agree.gif eek.gif agree.gif

Thanks, I visited the Tubal Cain Mine B-17 crash site about fifteen years ago and will have a story on that one in our first of two books. Does anyone have any information on the four engine Douglas C-54 wreck on the side of Mt. St. Helens, the Lockheed P2V Neptune wreck on Cougar Mountain, or the Douglas DC-3 wreck near Vail, Washington? I am interested in aircraft sites located in WA, OR, and ID only. Thanks, Dave

I am not familiar with the Emerald Ridge Trail. Where is that and what type of aircraft is this? Thanks

Maybe it was a miner.

I'm pretty sure that the Emerald Ridge shots show wreckage from the C-46 Commando twin-engine transport that crashed into the upper S.Tahoma Glacier in 1946. (USNavy designated R5C) It was enroute to Sand Point N.A.S from San Diego with a load of US marines. Some large pieces in those photos. I've run across a lot of pieces over the years....the big ones tend to disappear rather quickly. I think the NPS takes them out when they show up....melting out of the glacier terminus. "attractive nuisance" philosophy perhaps. The approach to the snout of the STahoma Glacier has become sportier in recent years.....several outburst floods have deepened the channel and added some risk to the hike.

McPilchuck mentioned that in another thread. I am curious about the exact location and any other details people might have.

On January 4, 1944, the Navy blimp K-39 made an emergency landing at NAS Quillayute. It broke loose in high winds as ground crews attempted to winch it to the mooring mast and crashed about 1 mile north of the airstrip. I've seen references to a blimp crash 5 miles north of the base so there may be two such incidents. The blimps would have been based at Tillmook, OR.

My pal Doug and I stumbled upon the wreckage of a navy rescue helicopter at perfect pass on 9/11/80. I have photos of revisiting the site which now has a plaque. I'm proud to say that those who have passed by over the last 30 years have left the wreckage untouched. I'd be happy to provide details and contact info if you want.

Seems like I remember some airplane debris on the West slope on Mt Washington (ONP). Near the bottom of West Face.
