Schroeder is right...no way will a small hydro pay for anything but a bunch of studies...the soft costs on such a project in this economy will eat up any benefit.

SnoPUD already has two microhydro projects in operation at Youngs Creek and Woods Creek, both near Monroe. Anyone have any idea where we could dig up the operating cost analysis for these projects?

To those who wish to comment on the application process for the Sunset Falls project, the FERC commenting window is currently open. Go here to start a new comment, you'll get an email with a link to the comment form. When searching for the Docket Number for the project, enter P-14295–000.

According to articles in the Herald last year, the Youngs Creek project was budgeted for $30 million to produce 2 MW ($15,000 per kW), a ridiculous cost.

Interesting the number of low impact projects being proposed. Many are truly a low impact means of power generation. At this there are not enough details to address how much water would or could be diverted around the falls. The changes in flow due to climate change are substantial. I have published a longer article on this the brief version is in an info sheet .

Article in today's Herald:
Dam fight grows; Skykomish on list of at-risk rivers
Quote: | Officials with the PUD said a lack of resistance was a factor in deciding to build the Youngs Creek dam. This case has attracted opposition, but to make a difference, opposition has to come from ratepayers, Klein said. |
