The pictures say most of what needs to be said. My favorite hiking partner (my daughter) and I took the Silver Creek trail and turned left at the Beacon Ridge trail. In the valley the forest looked like a Christmas card. No snow at the trailhead, but about 6" in the forest near the ridge. On the lee side of the Beacon ridge we were postholing up to our knees, and baby cornices were starting to form. A cross country route directly down the ridge to the trail cut off a mile on our way back.

Cliffs across the valley offer a dramatic backdrop as we climb the ridge
Above the snow line, there's a thin layer of white on the forest floor
First hike this year that looks like winter has arrived
