Heh. Better let the girls off the hook on this one. Ingunn is still in her 20's, Josie still in her 30's...I'm the "senior citizen" of the group.
Ok here's some photos, a bunch more on my Flickr site.

Hopefully the girls will add some more.

What a fun trip! Gorgeous pics, as usual, K. I thought your video was funny and delightful.
Isn't Valley of Fire neat? I imagine it gets ignored a lot because everyone wants to leave LV asap and head straight to Zion (or Bryce, etc.) I thought "Mouse Tank" was a pretty funny name.
Glad you had a wonderful trip with good friends.

Wow! Looks like you had a great time. Excellent photos as usual.

I had loaded up my Kindle with books for this trip (expecting long, sleepless nights in my tent), one of them being My Year with Eleanor, exploring Eleanor Roosevelt's advice to "do one thing that scares you every day". Little did I know that Karen's itinerary would allow me to do just that.
1) getting up early enough to catch a 7 am flight (okay, I might be confusing "scares me" and "pisses me off" here).
2) hiking in waist-deep, 46° water without a drysuit (and then converting it to Celsius so I would actually understand how cold that is).
Brr! I finally hiked the Narrows! The current must be stronger than I thought Turn and smile! See, there's light in even the darkest of canyons. 'round the bend The serene smile of hypothermia Kanyoneer Karen Sunshine ahead Canyon ghosts Junction
(Turns out the river wasn't scary at all, but smelling our rental neoprene booties at the end of the day was absolutely terrifying.)
3) driving through deep sand on an incredibly sketchy, long road in the middle of nowhere.
On the road to nowhere I said carry-on, not carrion Whoa! K2 approves So worth the drive Mukmuk's pool Hiking in a dream Vortex Last light Swirlyglow Josie's Pond Sunset somewhere in outer space She's always got her nose in a book Moonshine So many knobs, so little time Rockin' (or just stoned?) Good morrow! Venus and Mars Desert moguls Lovely lumps Karen² Sensory overload BRAAAAAAAAINS.
(I would gladly suffer that road again. Man alive, look at this place!)
4) climbing through a slippery slot canyon, no easy feat for the clumsy and rotund.
I thought this was supposed to be grippy Next stop: cesspool The primordial ooze It's better to look up than down at the muck. The Three Canyoneers Good thing we had finally showered earlier that morning. Peek-a-boo Still likin' that birthday present? Corkscrew Jo Jaws of Peek-a-boo Spooky Gulch Mukmuk ...I'm supposed to squeeze through that? Stuck, eh? Canadian bridge
(We made it, thanks to adrenaline and Go Jo's cheerleading moves.)
5) backpacking through quicksand (which for some reason I didn't think existed outside of the jungle).
Trailhead camping Entering Amanda Knox Canyon Coyote Gulch Sunshiny canyon Josie was the only one smart enough to bring water shoes. Into the light Jacob Hamlin Arch I finally learned how to take fuzzy water photos (sorry Scrooge!) Hopefully Karen will turn 40 (I mean 23) over and over again so we'll have an excuse to go back to Utah. That's how it goes when you forget to bring your remote.
(No problem for me, but then again I wasn't the one who was devoured. Sorry Go Jo!)
6) Vegas. Not so much fear, just loathing.
(Still hate it...but I know I'll keep coming back since it's the gateway to many a fantabulous Southwest adventure.)
She burned her hand for this photo Who you callin' slow?? It's a boy! When in Utah.. Bryce Canyon Morning dumbassery Mukmuk would rather stay in Red Canyon than return to the world of toques. Yeah, that's creepy. The road trip takes a bad turn O HAI Valley of Fire, my favorite campground Mukmuk honing his rope skills after his experiences in Peek-a-boo Canyon. Turtle power! 'twas a rough night in the Mojave
