Best donuts, hands down, is at a little joint in a small strip mall on the corder of Northgate Way and Meridian Ave N (other end of the strip from 7-11). It's called Family Donut and they are THE BEST!!!!! Beats Top Pot any day of the week, month, or year.

I think Top Pot and Frost are both a bit overrated. They're both good, but they're almost too rich (and I have an enormous sweet tooth, so that should say a lot). I'll always have a soft spot for Krispy Kreme, particularly their custard and creme filled fare.
There are two places I'd go over any other though; Sunrise Donuts in Redmond (corner of Leary and West Lake Sammamish, next to 7-11) - they have a KILLER custard filled maple bar - and the Black Diamond Bakery, where it is a sin to not stop and fill up with pastries on the way to the north / east sides of Mount Rainier, imo.

Rocket Donut in B'ham does a maple / bacon bar that is the stuff of dreams.
Their other donuts are great. The maple / bacon bar simply takes that greatness to the next level.

I really like the doughnuts (in particular, the twisted glazed) at the Red Apple grocery store in Kirkland. There's a good latte stand inside, too, and it just happens to be on the way to work.

my favorite donut is the plain cake
the epitome of that was from a restaurant downtown Seattle back int he day.
My first job was at a stock brokerage and on second avenue just below Columbia was this restaurant. Every day around 10 it was like lemmings. People leaving businesses on real coffee breaks.
we would troop to this place where they had a donut machine and it cranked out cake donuts. They were either plain, cinnamon sugared or occasionally powdered sugar.
crispy outside and edges
cakey and warm inside with just a hint of spice.
The fry was clean and flavorless.
A donut and coffee was 37 cents
When I find a plain cake as good, I know I have a winner.
I will be down Gravelly Lake way tomorrow, who knows
the search continues.
Haa Haa Google Maps shows "house of Donuts on Gravelly Lake Drive

Yea Top Pots are real heavy, but I have to say Krispy Kreme aren't far behind in the rich department especially if you have one those Hostess Cupcake doughnuts.

A food critic for doughnuts. Need a junk food critic to properly evaluate a doughnut. I thought they only did the finer dining.

yeah... that's it: House of Donuts...
guess I never really paid attention to the name of the place.. I just know it's right across the street from Alex and Karen at Ardesson's Shoe Repair, so while you're searching for that perfect donut, don't forget to take your boots in to get them repaired.
(Karen can also fix zippers, buckles, straps, tents, Tevas.)
(another shameless plug for Alex)
thank you!
