I got a late start from Seattle and headed to Mt. Dickerman for a New Year's Day outing. The MLH was mostly snow covered beyond Deer Creek but was easily traveled. I was surprised to find no other cars in the parking lot at 10am. Almost no snow on the trail to start, and not much below 3500'. By 4000' the depth was more notable, but there was an easy to follow boot path. At about 4200', not long before the creek crossing, the boot path crossed a steep exposed chute, with cliffs above. There was an almost constant bombardment of snowballs down the chute, and occasional chunks of ice were falling from the cliffs. Given the warming temperatures and solitude, I was concerned about conditions on the return and decided to turn around.
The photo below doesn't really do justice to what I saw.
Turn around point
Not an auspicious start to 2012, but I want to be around for 2013!

Thanks for the conditions update, I would imagine Pilchuck is hazardous as well with the new snowfall, knew I should have went for it last week.

I was wondering who's vehicle that was in the parking lot around 1-ish. Glad the driver returned safe and sound.

The exact same thing happened to me on Dickerman, only instead of being stymied by snowballs, it was a bottle of Wild Turkey and about two gallons of blueberries.
That mountain is cursed, I tell you.

What, no illustration? I'd dying to see what a bottle of wild turkey and two gallons of blueberries reveals in that angry mind.

Not to hijack the thread, but there was not much to see. I just passed out on a rock for a few hours, and people threw their loose change at me as they hiked on by.
