Thanks. I wish I could plan such things! But all one can do is hunt them. And try to be prepared.

A few minutes later, as everyone else was grabbing loose items on the deck that hadn't already flown away and then retreated inside, I held my tripod down as hard as I could and cranked up my ISO and got this one too... (has a little camera movement blur so won't print well at large sizes but looks ok on screen :-)

Yeah how often do you get lightning, a rainbow, underlit clouds, dark briefing clouds, blue sky, flood stage creek with nice reflections, and sunlit rain showers all in one pic!? I won't be holding my breath for a repeat...

Lovely photos, Jim! A garden's worth! I hiked up to Beckler Peak with some friends on Saturday and saw some trillium.

I finally, after nearly a quarter century in WA, got myself to the blast zone. It's cool to see how plant succession is working there. It was nice to have an overcast day for hiking the wide open Boundary Trail, which was surrounded by drifts of flowers.

Thanks. I can smell the chlorophyll in #4!!
Here's one more from my venture to St Helens - this from Thursday evening. Shot from the concrete edge of the little outdoor amphitheature at the Johnston Observatory. I sure walked a lot in either direction away from there trying to find a nice foreground for the mountain, which is a bit vexing given the need to stay on trails there. I got to this right as the light was getting sweet, and while there were still nice clouds by the summit (not long after, these had cleared and were replaced by multiple jet trails...).

Ooh, nice aerial pic!!
Here are a few from a raft trip down the Grand Canyon last month. This is from a short hike out of camp to the Nankoweap granaries, used by the Ancestral Puebloans until about the year 1200 when the abruptly left this region. It's a hike well worth doing, and if you're a photographer you ideally want to be in one of the camps near there so you can hit it near sunset when the light will tend to get sweet. These "windows" would have been blocked by big flat rocks and the whole rock wall mudded over with red mud/mortar when in use to help camouflage it so other groups would be unlikely to discover the grain stash.
Aside from giving you a loot at a cool ancient ruin/artifact this little hike also has the bonus of giving one of the better views up or down the river you're likely to get from reasonably accessible hikes along the course of the river.
