Where did you see that? I've seen its cousin, Araucaria cunninghamii(?) (the Australian version), and that's a very pretty tree; looks a bit like a tall, thin green wire brush. A few from this morning, shot through my bedroom window:

The Monkey Puzzle Tree was right outside my condo on the Oregon coast. I had to use the app Seek to figure out what it was. I think a guy up my road has a couple in his front yard but they're huge! Like 70 ft tall! Can't quite tell for sure though just driving by... Here another photo from the trip.

A friend and I snowshoed up to the ridge between the Castle and Pinnacle Peak to spend the night and shoot the stars. A new lens proved to be a little troublesome, but here's what I got. The last time I had been up there had been about this time of year circa 1976! I told my friend about doing the Castle and Pinnacle on a day hike with a friend from PLU. When I told him that friend's name, he said, "Hold it! He's my brother-in-law now!"

Friends help the miles go easier. Klahini

Thanks for sharing Aaron Comparing landscapes Washington vs Oregon, Washington wins on almost all aspects with the exception of our coastline. Oregon's is superior! Our ocean retreats are always in Oregon.

I think the biggest advantage WA has is that there is just a lot more alpine terrain. What OR has is nice. Around Hood, Jefferson, Three Sisters/Central OR, Wallowas there is some very high quality hiking opportunities. WA has nothing remotely like Crater Lake. And for nearly year round snow free hiking w/ a large concentration of waterfalls in a small area, the Columbia River Gorge on the OR side is simply better than anything I know of in WA (not to mention Silver Falls SP that is also an easy day trip from PDX). Agreed about the OR coast being better than the WA coast.
