Those are "mammatus" clouds. See the entry at The Cloud Appreciation Society. They can be really dramatic, but somewhat unusual in this area, I'd think. Truly impressive occurrence, if it's not a montage.

Monty, the road up to Haystack Mountain. The little pimple above the handlebars is TOC Rock. Access from FS 62, the same one that goes to Mt Persis.
