I would suggest camping out at the Verlot Campground that has been mostly unoccupied over the winter, but open to the public year round now. Unless the snow level drops down to 900 feet you should be snow-free in the campground. There's easy access to potable water at the FS' Verlot Public Serivice Center almost across the road from the campground, and there are quite few different options for hikes that vary in difficulty in the area for day-trips. Contact the Verlot Public Serive Center that's open Saturday & Sunday (360-691-7791), or the Darrington Ranger Station (360-435-1155) open Mon-Saturday for more info and current conditions.
