We last visited Beckler Peak right after the new Jennifer Dunn trail opened up in September 2011. The trail was nice enough, but we went on a wet and windy day, so we weren't overwhelmed by the hike. Later on, I saw pictures of Beckler on a sunny day and decided to return. The trail is accessed via FS road 6066 off Hwy 2. The road was snow free until mile 4.5. At this point, there were just a few obnoxious patches of snow that the subaru wasn't going to make it through. Beyond these patches, the car would have been fine. We parked at 4.5mi and trekked 2mi to the dry trailhead in half an hour. Of note: there is a thin tree down and blocking the road at mile 6.0.
There was snow on the trail from the start:
Winter was not kind to the first mile of the trail:
We reached the open slope and enjoyed some great views.
After carefully traversing the slope, we headed back into the woods.

We followed the summer trail to just below the saddle, then pointed our snowshoes directly up the eastern slope. About 500 feet later, the slope began to level off. We followed a ridge west to the meadow area.

After leaving the meadow, we continued up some steep slopes until we reached a knob about 100' or so below the summit. So close, but we called it a day there due to iffy snow conditions and some big cornices on the true summit. We had great views here and basked in the warm sun for lunch before heading back down.

Great day! Didn't see a soul all day until we encountered a woman in a forester asking about a red truck on our drive down. My guess is that the road will be melted out in another week or so but the trail itself will take another month or two.

That road is melting out fast. I talk with Rangers a week and a half ago and it was melted about 2.5 miles in. Hopefully the rest melts out soon. Great looking photos, thanks for sharing :-)
