Both Bob and Joe had been wanting to scramble Bean Peak, so with the stellar forecast it was time! The crossing of the creek is a non-issue now. We waded across and still had dry feet.
Flowers in Bean Creek Basin. Meadow.
The flowers in the basin are glorious, and not many bugs, either! We followed the trail through the east side of the basin, and continued up a boot path to the ridge that connects the two peaks. From here it was a fairly short scramble to the top. Out of concern for the safety of the Chihuahuas, K. stayed with the dogs about 80 feet below the summit.
Trail from basin to ridge, just SE of Bean. On the ridge near Bean. A close look at Bean. Joe ascending Bean Peak. Joe and Bob scrambling Bean.
It is a long mile from Bean to Earl, but nothing is too difficult. We did encounter some 'skeeters and flies, but they were not too bad. We never felt the need to apply DEET.
Heading toward Earl from Bean. Getting closer to Earl. Earl Peak from Bean. Stuart and Volcanic Neck. Bob and Luis on the ridge. Bob and Luis. Joe on the ridge just below Earl.
The boot path which descends Earl is badly eroded and steep. Once we reached the saddle west of Earl, the trail was in great shape(except for one blow-down) all the way back to the parking lot.
Fun trip (about 8 miles) with about 3900 ft. of gain.
On the summit of Earl...K, Luis and Lupe. Joe and Bob descending Earl.

Nice. That's a fun ridge romp. We did it in the reverse, but same idea. I was glad not to have my big dog along for that one - not only for that last bit up Bean, but for much of the traverse between the two.

Interesting to see the area with a lot less snow than the trip I had up about a month ago. Still beautiful as I remember it!
Thanks!

The advantage of the Chihuahuas is we can carry them when the terrain is too rough.

AH, K has a knack for making these scrambles look way more exciting than they really are. Joe and I went up the southeast face.....just find an appropriate line and go. The rock is solid with good hand & foot holds....or circle around to the north side and walk up.

Oh, I know exactly where he is in that photo. I actually inched out there a little ways before I decided that my size 14's were likely to get me a helicopter ride back to Seattle.
So I followed a poodle up that nice, comfy, Class 2 gully to the north.
