A couple years ago I climbed Mount Stone with Redwic and other friends. That day I couldn't help but think that nearby Mount Skokomish also looked attractive. I went back to Lake Of The Angels, this time solo. I saw some nice avalanche lilies along the way.

Can You Spot The Twelfth Goat?
Above the lake I noticed lots of goat tracks. It made me wonder if I would see the same herd of goats we had run into before. Sure enough, a little higher, I saw the heard. They were standing there silently watching me. They backed away even further as I climbed past them. The snow was perfect for kicking steps. I aimed for the pass where I could access the south side of Skokomish. At the pass I was impressed by Mount Cruiser. It looks like a tough climb.
Beyond the pass I had to traverse westward for awhile without ascending, to avoid the cliffs higher on the south slope. The slope alternated between snow, wet dirt, and loose scree. Once past the cliffs I ascended toward what looked like the summit block. I scrambled up the right hand side which turned out to be a mistake when I found myself staring down the sheer north face. But I could see where I should have been, the far left side.
Rather than follow the loose knife-edge over, I scrambled back down and then walked over to the left side of the steep rocky face to start over. The scramble was something less than pleasant. You have to be mentally prepared for crappy rock when you scramble in the Olympics but this was some of the more lousy rock I have seen over there. At the top of the face I had to drop into a notch before going up to the true summit at 6434 feet. Great views of the Olympic peaks!
Switzerland, Thompson, Lake of the Angels? With apologies to Johnny Cash,
"You've been everywhere, man.
You've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the desert's bare, man.
You've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel you've had your share, man.
You've been everywhere."
route seems pretty straight forward now, thanks for the report. i ended my hike one or two notches over (s) from where you went through and did see two guys coming back from the way you describe.
