My Firefox preferences are set to allow webpages to choose their own colors. My impression is that NWH uses the same color for both visited and unvisited links. The only difference apparent to me is that an unvisited link uses bolded text. The links I am referring to are the thread titles. While I like the overall color scheme I would much prefer to see more visual difference between visited/unvisited links.

The color for visited links is a different shade of blue. I think the problem you are having is when you click on the new post indicator you are viewing the first unread post, which is a different link than the thread title which takes you to the first page of the topic. Because they are different links your browser will still consider the latter an unvisited link until you click on the topic.

I found out how to override the color that NWH uses for visited links: http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread.php/142610-Change-links-color-Google-Firefox
