Between thick smoke in Wenatchee and my neighborhood being on a level 3 evacuation alert I had not been hiking in two weeks. When the alert lifted I talked my wife into letting me leave for a couple of days. Since most areas were closed except the upper US2 corridor I headed for Rock Mt to take a look at the fires. I made the mistake of thinking my feet could go without stiff supporting boots and wore a pair of soft sided light hikers. When I got to Rock Lake I didn’t have it in me to go on to the top of Rock Mt. It would have to wait till morning.
Smoke from Entiat fires
Mt Howard
Mastiff
Crescent Lake
Rock Lake
Rock Lake from above
Rock Lake fish
Metamorphic rock
Fire smoke - not sure which fire
Smoke later in the evening
In the morning the smoke was starting to be a problem up there also so I had coffee and headed out before it got as bad as Wenatchee. Oh well, I have been to Rock Mt before.
Looks wonderful up there for a while......and then.....just pretty good. Smoke comes, smoke goes.....except for down the valley... it just stays!
