Huskies still undefeated about 1/3 of the way thru conference play. So far it looks like Stanford and UW...and then everybody else. Those two teams only play once this year, it's in Seattle right at the end of the regular season. Today the Dawgs managed something that's been very difficult in recent years--beating the Ducks in Eugene. Tough road trip next week to the Arizona schools, both of which are solid this year.

Just past the halfway point of the conference schedule. UW still undefeated, 22-0 overall, nearly matched best start in program history. Swept USC in LA tonight, but it was a tough match. Won by 2 points all 3 sets. USC was struggling early in the season but has been playing much better lately, they just gave Stanford a tough time at Stanford last weekend. Stanford is also still undefeated, and the Cardinal and UW are ranked #1 and #2 in the country currently. Huskies have another big match Friday night at UCLA.

Holy cow! The match wasn't on TV, I was following it on a gametracker type of thing online. Huskies DESTROYED UCLA in LA. Scores were -15 -17 -8. You just don't see good teams lose that badly. UW had a ton of blocks, UCLA had a ton of hitting errors, UW hit well over .400 as a team and UCLA was barely over .000. UCLA has I believe the national leader in kills/set but they neutralized her. She had 11 kills but hit .000 for the night. UW had balanced attack, nobody in double figures in kills but 4 players hit over .500. That was a beatdown! Huskies swept the LA road trip for the second year in a row, has to be a first for them, also swept the LA schools on the season for the second straight year. Bring on Stanford! Still a few matches before then though.

Thanks for the updates! It's another great season for one of the best Husky programs. Thanks to the PAC-12 network, I get to see some of their games, occasionally even live.

Huskies swept Oregon tonight at Hec Ed, moving to 24-0 on the season. Best start to a season in program history!

In their last 7 matches they have lost one game going 21-1. That's pretty dominating. #1 ranked Stanford match is in Seattle. Next to last match of the year.

Yeah, they've been on a roll and hopefully are peaking for the post season. Vansant is consistent, she rarely has a bad match. Scambray has been really good for freshman, a few ups and downs but not too bad. The middles are solid, although sometimes the connection to them with the setters is just not there. They weren't getting much from the Nelson/Jones combo for a while, but both of them have been on fire lately. Against Oregon those 2 combined for 19 kills and hit well over .400. Getting consistent production from them has been huge! And the back row defense is much improved from earlier in the season.

Saw the Oregon match in person on Friday. Big crowd, lots of energy, and pretty much the UW women hitting on all cylinders. Caught the last set on Pac12 TV tonight. Just wow. Keep telling my kids that what they are seeing this year is special. They have yet to see the Huskies lose a set in person or on TV this year. And somewhat torqued (as usual) that there is not more of a media buzz around the amount of butt kicking being handed out by this team.

UW used to be a football school, but mediocrity (or worse) has been the status quo for the most part since Don James left (I wasn't a Neuheisel fan). Romar had the men's bball program rolling for a while, but hasn't sustained it. With the possible exception of the crew teams, volleyball is by far and away the most successful sports program at UW for a good long while now. You're right, it's a shame they don't get more local media attention. At least they have a dedicated and boisterous fan base.

Huskies in trouble tonight. Down 0-2 against Colorado in Boulder. UW was up 24-23 in both sets but couldn't finish. Frustrating. Not over til it's over, but they're probably going to pick up their first L of the season. Colorado just got swept at home by both USC and UCLA last week. They seem to give UW a hard time every time they play them.

I might've spoke too soon. We're going to 5! Huskies won set 3 fairly easily. Were down 23-20 in the 4th but scored the last 5 straight points to force the decisive game 5. Seems like if a team is up 2-0 and it ends up going to 5, they lose most of the time. And the Dawgs have been money in 5 setters the last couple years.

Egads. Dawgs were horrible in the 5th set. 8 hitting errors. Negative hitting percentage. Like WAAAAAAY negative. Vansant in particular really struggled. There were 3 undefeated teams to start the night, and 2 of them just lost (Florida St. was the other). Stanford is the only one left.

Dammit, lost another 5 setter tonight against Utah. Who would've guessed the Mountain road swing is way tougher than the LA trip. Kind of takes some of the luster off that big showdown coming up with Stanford.

Huskies recovered for a pair of sweeps against the Arizona schools over the weekend. I watched most of it on TV. They didn't look as dominant as earlier in the season but at least don't have a lingering hangover from the Colorado/Utah trip. Huge match Wednesday night against Stanford. The Cardinal are still undefeated. I've seen references to the lower bowl being sold out already and only 200-300 general admission tickets in the upper bowl being left. Gonna be a big, rockin' crowd for this one!

I headed out of town this morning, so wasn't able to attend the match (or watch it on TV unfortunately). UW with a big 3-1 win against the Cardinal! Way to go ladies. Both UW and Stanford have excellent chances of being among the top 4 seeds when the brackets are announced soon.
