Recent Trip reports of Gunn Pk motivated me to head up the Barclay Lake TH Sunday with a couple of summits in mind. The plan was to climb up Gunn on Sunday, and finish up with a revenge climb of Baring on Monday. "Danceswithbamboo" decided to join me on Sunday. The two of us were heading down the spur road by 7:00am. We followed the detailed route description from summitpost written by Redwic. The trail has SEVERAL ribbons marking the way, so route finding was never an issue. The path leads over a ridge seperating Tailgunner and Wing Peaks, then drops into a splendid basin.

From here the route heads up a boulder field to a gully under the SW buttress. Some quick scrambling led us another talus field to traverse.

Some more srambling up to the notch, and we were readyto head across a very exposed traverse.

Danceswithbamboo started the downclimb ahead of me, and even paused for a photo.

Unfortunately, seconds after the photo was taken something happened and I watched him tumble uncontrolled several feet down the gully. I quickly worked my way down to him to check his condition. Thanfully there didn't seem to be any breaks or severe damage. However, he had a couple bad gashes that needed attention.

We took our time heading toward a beautiful tarn under Tailgunner. I decided to scramble up top while Danceswithbamboo tended to his wounds.

The rest of the descent was uneventful, and we were back to the cars by 5:30. Since I was meeting a couple NWhikers for Baring the next morning I decided to pitch a tent at the TH and catch some sleep. During the middle of the night a snowy owl made a visit only feet away from my head. I managed to shine my headlamp on the owl, and see him / her for all its glory. A real spectacular creature. Some breakfast down in Goldbar, and I was ready to climb Baring with Fletcher and Lukerbee. This was a revenge climb for fletcher and myself after being forced to turn short back in June. We made quick work of the 1st mile leading to the ridge.

When I first clicked on this I thought it was going to be an incredible two peaks in a day marathon. That would have blown me away! I finally got up Baring on Saturday for the first time and that steep trail did a number on my thighs coming down. Good job anywho, glad the accident wasn't worse eek.gif
