REI Kimtah jacket is on sale for only $120.
Its a decent deal at $230. Its a steal at $120. I am glad I bought my Rab Neoshell before the sale....It would have been really hard to rationalize the Rab.
I tried on the Kimtah recently. Its a good fit and decent design. Only downside I saw was no pit zips(claim is its not needed) and it only had a rain flap behind the zipper, not a waterproof zipper.
eVent will eventually sweat out, if you sweat a lot, but it does better than Goretex, in general.
I have had good luck with eVent rain paints, bad luck with an eVent jacket, but that is probably more design related, and the jacket manufacturer is no longer making jackets, I notice.

I'm totally impressed with my eVent jacket. It is very breathable and actually keeps me dry.
Best gear investment I've made in a long time.

eVent has been around for awhile. eVent, like GoreTex, is ePTFE membrane. Mountain Hardwear's DryQ is also ePTFE.

Actually Polartec Neoshell is "the latest" goretex replacement.
Most reviewers agree that both eVent and Neoshell is better than Goretex, and eVent is about the same as Neoshell if you are less active in it or don't sweat tons.
Goretex has kept its favored status by heavily manipulating the market.

Don't forget MrRebates for 6% cash back or ebates for 5% cash back at REI.com. I also have e-gift cards I can offer at 10% off which will save another 10%.

I have been using the REI Kimtah jacket for the past year. I have been very happy with it. Like my other eVent rainshell, the Kitmah outperforms anything I have ever owned that was gortex or PU coated.

Got a REI Kimtah jacket last spring when it was on sale. It works marginally better than Goretex nice jacket but not the second coming.

That's why I didn't pull the trigger at full price, but heck at half price and with REI's return policy, how can you go wrong.
