well, this was like 5 years ago. i recall minimal snow until halfway up, and then it was pretty firm. so, booting up. once we got into the basin, it was softer and more open, so snowshoes came out. many routes possible - http://www.hillmap.com/m/ag1zfmhpbGxtYXAtaGRychULEghTYXZlZE1hcBiAgICMwZKiCgw
on a trip with a true physical alpha like r3h, (when i was in shape) i would have no problem deferring until they tuckered out at which point i would take over. sometimes that never happens. sometimes it does. i think i put in a second track on this trip parallel to r3h's because it was fun, mellow, and something i liked to do. now that i'm old and haven't hiked in 2 years, i would be crawling in his track. not like the glory days... https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7997378
