Hey, I know some of you also post on Portland Hikers. Is their website down? I've gotten the 404 error message last night and now today, I'm not even getting that. Trying to figure out if it's my internet being slow or if there's something else going on. Anyone else try to access it today?

I found this:
04/07/2013 12:18pm: Data is currently being restored to this server from a recent snapshot. Duration of the restore process may take approximately 8 hours.

Yes, Portland is still here! We did get slammed with terrific winds about 4 am today. The whole house was shaking. I know that quite a few folks lost power. Whether that has anything to do with PH's problem, I don't know. I was on OK early yesterday evening (maybe 7 pm.).
"Retired Jerry," one of the mods, knows nothing more than the rest of us, per his post on BPL a few hours ago.
PH has had some slowdowns the past few months, especially evenings and weekends. It's on a shared server, so it's not necessarily a PH issue.

Thanks! I hadn't thought about the crazy weather last night affecting the server, but that very well could have been it.

Our web host said last night that they were "repairing the disk". They said this morning that they were "repairing the disk and that it was taking longer than expected."
I'm in the queue to talk to them now.
I can actually see the data now (a good thing) but a lot of the subdirectories are owned by the root user so I cannot access them.
We had already planned a server move, but this will obviously move that priority up. (I'd have moved the site by now if I had access to the data).

Thank you very much, Martell, for keeping us updated! I hope everything works out! (For those who don't know, Martell is PortlandHiker's technical guru.)
I found this site on google: "Website Down" which claims to run a test to determine if the problem is the website or just your computer. Does anyone know if this site is OK to use?
