Hyas Lake
I was looking for a mellow summit for Rainie again, before the more serious peaks took up my weekends off.
This really wasn't it.
I thought the hike would be snow free at least to Tuck Lake.
It wasn't.
There were a few snow patches along the trail to Hyas..... the Deception Pass Trail disappeared under snow just above 4000ft. I knew I would not find the trail sign to Tuck since I wasn't sure I was on the Deception Pass Trail....for sure...
Tuck Lake
So I headed up when I reached 4400ft. I got lucky! There was a fair amount of snow but this route was really mellow in elevation gain and brush. Sometimes it is just good to be lucky! I put on micro spikes which really helped with the hard snow and slimy limbs and mud.
Above Tuck, the route to Robin Lakes Looking down from the ridge to Robin, on Little Tuck
Above Tuck Lake was a lot of snow! Since it was 38 degrees at the parking lot, nothing softened up. The ice axe and micro spikes were needed the whole way to Robin Lakes.
First view of Upper Robin Lake The only dry campsite by lower Robin Lake
It was a very tiring climb up there, not really sure where all the cairns were hidden, and the steep hard snow.... it took tea and a nap to get ready for Granite Mountain.
Do you think Rainie is interested in Granite?
I took the ridge between the upper and lower lakes to head up to the summit.
Run-out from upper to lower Robin
Ridge run between the lakes
Looking down on lower Robin Nearing the top of the ridge
At the top of the ridge there was a big cornice and a steep drop-off to a saddle, at the base of Pt7144.
Corniced ridge.
I had to back down the ridge and drop off a steep slope to get to the saddle below. I was just hoping neither Rainie or I slid down into Robin Lake! The snow had softened so steps felt pretty solid. I hated loosing all that elevation, but what are you going to do?
Cathedral Rock Mt Daniel with ski tracks....Mtn Man maybe??? Lower Robin Lake Pt7144
A lot of steep traversing after the saddle... pretty tuckered by the time we got back to camp.
Rainie glad to be back.
Trico really wasn't an option for either of us....at least not today. Aspirin for both of us and a good night's sleep.
Sunrise
The next morning we just headed down, knowing it would be a little challenging.
Steep snow on the way back to Tuck. More dirty snow on the way down to Deception Pass.
It was a pleasure to experience the beauty of Robin Lakes in complete solitude. It made the endeavor worthwhile!

Beautiful! More inspiration to return! We spent some time off trail on the way up and it was just steep and nerve racking. Going down that whole way must have been rough. You and your dog are super tough!
