I've been looking to get up Bedal Pk. for many years now so I was very happy that Jeff agreed to guide Eric, Reggi, and I back up after he skied it the day before. He said the views were worth it.
The little fisherman's trail through beautiful old growth forest gets your attention in a few steep spots, but is much better than nothing, so watch the pink flagging if you loose your way (Eric & I wandered a bit on the way down).

After a couple miles we hit continuos snow and started skinning. Open trees kept us in the shade until we traversed over to the barren slopes of the upper north east face. The view north and east now opens up with Glacier Pk. in your face.

We traversed up and across the open slopes to a final climb up the east ridge to the summit where the spectacular panorama of the Mountain Loop peaks and the north face of Sloan (recently skied) elicited many hoots and "Wow!"s.
North face of Sloan
An hour sipping summit beers and eating sandwiches was the highlight of the day. I was in photographer heaven with a new perspective on my Mountain Loop stomping grounds and making plans for a summit bivy on another trip. A bit of a breeze kept the snow from totally mushing out so we weren't in too big a hurry.

The skiing wasn't great, with lots of traversing and few good fall line pitches, but better than walking!
Jeff jumps from the summit Eric swoops down I'm lovin the views down across the north east face Jeff does his thing
The trail back down is soft and easy on the knees, so we arrived back at the car in the late afternoon tired, but not beat. Jeff's GPS said 4700 ft. of elevation gain.
I don't recommend this as a beginner hike, but for the Mountain Loop connoisseur it's a must do. Now I've gotta go back and spend a night on top!

Heck yeah! I loved Bedal when we did it. Great views and the best standing glissade I ever had.

that upper bowl could make for some most excellent pow skiing on a clear, cold winter day when the sun angle doesn't hit it. nice pics!

Beautiful shots, the zoom shots are great! That is one summit I want to head back too. It was a little cloudy the first time I went.

Elle, yes, Eric gets out skiing with me quite a bit. You'll see him in many of my ski TRs.
