I *love* this series of images. Don't know why exactly, but in my mind, they are the best. Superb.
I have to wonder if JRR Tolkien visited this place before writing the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Mordor for sure.
The entire TR was captivating, I quite enjoyed it, especially since I only found it after it was completed and I could read it in its entirety. Well done.

The book was by Galen Rowell. I thoroughly enjoyed it and tried to base some of my photographic compositions on his (such as the Trango Towers ones).

Thanks for the detailed report - I'm just starting my research for a trip next year, so you've given me plenty of great tips and ideas!
What about Gondogoro La, I read somewhere that this year it is opened again. Do you have any news regarding it. |

Gondogoro La was open this year. Numerous groups went over, although we did hear of at least one incident of rock fall/avalanche related injuries when a group descended down the wrong line.

Definitely should try to do Gondogoro if possible. Makes for a great loop and huge views from the pass - as long as you are a decent acclimatizer. Most of our group felt pretty miserable that high even after spending weeks getting there. I did it way back in 1994. Despite the steepness, steps were already formed and so it wasn't too bad. Porters had sneakers (and a rope).

what is a good travel insurance for this trek for a Canadian citizen? I basically want it just in case we need emergency evacuation. Can Ido this trek independently or need to go through a Travel agent. |

I used RoamRight Insurance's Adventure Package, which covers you up to 18,000ft.
I booked the flights to and from Islamabad myself. The trekking company should be able to do the rest (call them and talk it over).
