Just got word from a Friend that her Bro-In-Law did not return as Scheduled Sat. from a hike to Found Lake. Trying to get more info but if you were up in that area and have any info please let me know. Guess SAR was up there Today. I was looking to see if anyone had posted about it but didn't see anything?
Thanks!

I'm planning to day hike up to point 5791' on Kindy Ridge tomorrow. Called the North Cascades NP Wilderness Info Center and they weren't sure of the status of the SAR effort, which apparently is being led by the county. At any rate, assuming we can go ahead with the hike we'll keep a look out for him or signs of him.

His wife works with my mother in law, and she went to the trailhead this morning, so far there has been no update. I will keep everyone posted and pray for his safe return.

Just got back from hiking up Kindy Ridge and talked with the SAR folks afterwards. Still no sign of him, unfortunately. We didn't see a soul on the trail all day, which stands to reason as they're searching down by the lakes and we were up on the ridge.

Hey Guys, Im the son of the missing hiker Thom McCoy. SAR has suspened the search until more evidence allows them to continue searching. I was in the Found Lakes area ( Found lake, Nero, Skyro, Cyclone and Snowking Lake) for the past three days until SAR asked me to leave the area and return to "base". I was up and out of those lakes twice in three days. I'm Going back in with a group of family friends and some of his co-workers on friday (8/16) to make a more thorough search of the area. If anybody wishes to help Email me at Dev2pt0@aol.com. I cant promise that ill return your email due to the extensive planning I'll be doing for the next 24 hours. My dads brother will be searching near the trail head tomorrow and knows the current plan layout if anyone wishes to join him he'll be camped there.
Thanks everyone for the support!
Devin McCoy

You know everyone here is wishing you the best, and strength to get through this.
FWIW -- I reckon the SAR folks are aware of this -- the one time I was up there, long ago (10 years?) I got suckered by a "trail trap" and missed the sketchy path in one spot on the return. It was where the "trail" climbs steeply in the woods up to that straight N-S ridge above the road. Descending, my "trail sense" lead me down a trap, and I missed a sharp, almost indiscernable left turn. I followed sparse but definite foot traffic straight down until it petered out. Others had made the same mistake. I had to backtrack steeply up, quite a ways, a hundred yards or more. Had I stubbornly persisted, I would have been somewhere on the E slope of that ridge, S of the trail, W of Kindy Ck, maybe in the vicinity of Vee Ck.
The actual left turn that I missed amounted to a few sidehill boot gouges in the turf. The "trap" looked like the obvious way to go.
But that was long ago; things have probably changed a lot.
