Sometimes beauty can be so overwhelming that it feels like i'm dying.
And that's the story I'm going with.
"This trail is so freaking beautiful that you might die." Hiker Beware.
Kinda sweet and loving, really.

I happened to do this trail on Saturday (9/13! What an odd coincidence!) and saw her cross. What a strange mystery, thank you for looking into it and sharing what you found!

17 YO and no external injuries -- one possibility is that she overdosed on drugs -- either intentionally or unintentionally. Either way the family may have requested, in their grief, that the "cause of death" to be left unwritten. If the medical examiner was satisfied that "no foul play" was involved the ME might have left it at that.

I don't think they are supposed to do that, no matter what. It may be referred to the SO to decide if it was suicide or foul play.

How very strange. I wonder if you could contact the "Unsolved Mysteries" show and have them look into it? Does that show even still exist?

Perhaps it was a user-unfriendly mushroom....but if there was no autopsy how would they know.....

Finally got my answer, she was hiking with her high school classmates and one PMed me with the answer just now. It was not drugs or mushrooms or suicide.

A cheap and free way to get info is to go to the library and look thru the newspaper archives for a few days around the time of death. Seattle Times and Tacoma paper from then. It can be time consuming - the papers are likely on microfilm. May or may not get "cause" there.
