In the late 70s my dad spent two summers camping up at copper lake with his roommate who was studying water quality for the watershed. Back then access was much better and there was a fisherman's trail. They built tent platforms on the snow that would begin to melt out and find themselves in a field of alder, and had to hike their crap out every couple of weeks which as one could imagine was quite trying on the steep fisherman's trail. I wonder if the setup on the lake shore is maybe another research team. I've been wanting to check out the lake myself but access is much more difficult now. It seems like the best way to get there would be to ski off vesper when the snowline is right. Big day, but probably better than brush bashing..
