Stu and I got out yesterday for another day of shameless peak bagging on the east side of the state. We started the morning at the Yakima Training Center where, after checking in and getting our recreation card we proceeded to make our way to Hog Back Buttes which is the high point of Umtanum Ridge (and a T200 Prom and Isolation peak). After that we crossed the valley and went up to the Yakima Ridge High Point (a P1K peak) then tagged the Middle peak before heading back down. The hunters were out and several ranges were hot with training but we were unimpeded from going where we needed and saw no one while we were on the peaks we visited. Plan on about 4 hrs to visit all of these places if coming onto the military reservation. After that we headed east and drove up Jump Off Joe by Kennewick, allowing me to complete the Wash Isolation list (yes, there is such a lame list). It wasn’t that I was working on this as much as I had done the others in the process of visiting other peaks along the way. Since I had these last two remaining for some time I figured what the heck. Not yet done for the day we pointed east one more time and went to visit Table Rock Lookout in the south eastern part of the state. This almost proved to be a mistake. I plotted two routes from Walla Walla to get to this peak with the shorter path coming up from Oregon. Little did we know that the last 7.5 miles along the Kendall Skyline Road was a treacherous, deeply rutted, muddy, snow covered in places mess. Do not go this way! We were saved and almost did in by the fact that hunters had also traveled this route lately. They broke good trails through the snowy sections but also added to the muddy rutty mess. Stu drove this section like Dale Earnhardt Jr. threading the pack at Talladega Superspeedway. The drive down from the lookout north was on much better roads, as was the long drive home.

History in a picture. That tree can't figure out what hit it, but it's trying hard to recover!
