We started in the Rocky Run drainage and hike up to Lake Lillian. Kevin got stung by a bee. There's a ground-nest in the trail, between the first and second junction. Beware! They are apt to swarm if you linger near the hive entrance.

We scrambled over the slabs to reach the east shore and then followed the trail up and out of the lake cirque. We encountered snow on the other side of the ridge. The true summit of Rampart ridge was a little scrambley with class 3 and 4 options, but it is short. We descended back to the gap above Lake Lillian, passing a few small lakes along the way.

From the gap we continued south along a narrow exposed ridge to the summit of SE Rampart 5606'. I had to crawl like a baby a few times to navigate small trees and low branches. We retraced our steps back to the gap and then descended back to Lake Lillian.

This time we navigated around the west side of the lake to reach the inlet drainage. We hiked up to the pass between Gold Lake and Lake Lillian. A few spots were tricky, especially mossy slabs. From the pass we turned south and hiked up through snow to the summit of Dungeon Peak 5640'.

From The Dungeon we returned to Lake Lillian for the third time and the followed the trail over to Twin Lakes and Mount Margaret. We were all feeling tired now (ok maybe not Kevin since he's an ultra-runner). Mount Margaret was our least favorite peak out of the 4, but it was rewarding to have a view of the other three peaks.

Cool, I was up on Rampart Ridge on Saturday.... Here is a close up of the wasp nest.
The nest location was right in the middle of the trail. It was marked well with red plastic ribbon around the surrounding trees. When we came down I noticed someone had pulled the primary warning ribbon off the first tree and threw it in the bush. Did my best tie it back on. Why would someone pull it down?

Thanks for the photo of the nest. That's an amazing shot. How did you take it without getting stung? For that part of our descent, we bushwacked off-trail well away from the nest.

eek.gif Man, those guys are ready to pounce. That's a brave shot there. Well done for the team! Thanks for trying to re-flag the varmints DarkHelmet. And speaking of team, that's a great team you assembled for the hike, Gimpilator. You all managed to cover a lot of ground and maximize the day. Nice work, all. ~z

Honestly I have never been stung without provocation. Wasps/bees don't bother me. I just walked up calmly and took the photo. I cropped it a bit, here is the uncropped version.
I love the detail from my camera (Sony RX100 m2), I have only had it a couple weeks but I am really impressed with the detail available. Photos from my hike can be viewed here: http://www.meetup.com/ePeaks/photos/all_photos/?photoAlbumId=18033632
