Unable to put together an overnight trip before the weather broke Wildernessed and I decided the least we could do was a day hike up Tronsen Ridge. We could have driven closer to the TH but our goal was to enjoy the beautiful day and get some exercise so we parked down near US 97. As it turned out we did about 8.5 miles and a couple thousand feet vertical. Rob has the GPS and good camera so I will rely on him to post a map and some decent photos. There was haze in the air but we still had great views under almost perfect weather. Another good trip.

Would like to have joined you guys today, but needed to be back in town early for school. I had a decent trip up Keystone Point for sunrise though.
I'll have to get up to Tronsen one of these days. Thanks for the report!

What a great Fall day for this hike. I always try to start at the road to make more of a hike of it, and though I have been everywhere around Tronsenhead I have never been on it. Nice spot. It would make a good campsite. The views were greatly diminished due to the controlled burns and stagnant air, especially over distance. The crisp views of winter are now more appreciated.
Tronsonhead via Tronsen Meadows - Lillian Ridge Trails
The road and trail up to the junction with the Lillian Ridge trail are showing signs of erosion, the heavy rains earlier in the year had a big impact. The Lillian Ridge trail was nice, as was the walk along the face of the ridge over to Tronsenhead. I may have to come back out here and do Tronsen Knob / Windy Peak once again only a few hundred yards away if time and weather allows.
Old Growth Down !
Hit the Trail and I made good time and had lunch and coffee on the summit which was 65 degrees in the sun. Nice !

I was going to head up there last weekend but I thought the fire had pretty much devastated the area. It's nice to see all the larch still standing.

Actually, a lot of our hike was through a bad burn. Pictures tend to hide the devastation. A lot of the top is completely burned. Even in green areas the under growth has been burned (probably a good thing) but the taller trees upper sections survived the heat.

This Larch looks a little past it's prime. I guess I missed the peak larch season again this year.
