A fun hike/scramble that we shortened some by parking (room for 2 cars) next to the Mountain Loop Highway shortly after it crosses Perry Creek... then using an abandoned road for the .75 mile hike to the original Perry Creek Trailhead. If you don't want to leave your car next to the highway... continue another .9 miles to the shared parking area for Mount Dickerman and Mount Forgotten... and add an additional mile of hiking to your day. While the Perry Creek Trail was very frosty on the NW side of Mt. Dickerman, we didn't see snow until we got to Mt. Forgotten Meadows on the east side of Point 5396... where we gave back 150 feet of elevation as we used a climber's trail to traverse over to the 5500 foot bench on the east side of the mountain. The traverse was snow-free or we would have probably called it a day at the meadows. From the 5500 foot bench we used our spikes to climb up a 150 foot gully and then again to climb up the top portion of a second gully just below the summit (6005'). Broad views in all directions. 11.6 miles roundtrip, gaining 4763 feet of elevation. Maps and photos of our trip to Mount Forgotten. ..

One of my favorite places-scrambles, won't be long it will be snowed in.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Yet another "last chance" for a brown hike before we'll break out the snowshoes. up.gif A few more pictures from a fun day and a most scenic hike and scramble.

Great report and excellent photos for such a beautiful day. Your photos and captions certainly demystify Mt. Forgotten's summit route. I have been up there as far as the meadows, but low clouds and poor visibility caused me to turn around at that time. I have wondered about that "parking space" to save going all the way to the Dickerman trail head parking area. I suppose if the Forest Service didn't want us to park there, then there would be signage. It looks like a quicker access if you don't mind hanging out on the highway. Thanks. ~z

I really enjoyed this hike earlier in the summer and had hoped to return for Stillaguamish. Looks like that will be next year though.

It's a great hike, but quite a haul for one day with the longer trail. Nice pictures all.

The road walk to the junction with the current trail is 3/4 mile. The trail to that same point is 1 mile. The net savings for the round trip hike will be 1/2 mile, but you will miss some nice views of Big 4 on the new trail.

When you are "miles from nowhere" you must have finally arrived at somewhere.

Terrific report and fantastic pictures. It doesn't look like it has changed much since I was last there in 1981. I wish my pictures were as good as yours.
