Is it good idea to have sticky tread with gear links in gear section? There is one in "Links" section, but do people really go there? It might help people to find gear, instead starting new topic about similar questions every 6 month. (I am not against sharing info, and asking questions, but will it make people ask more educated questions?)
I mean not a discussion tread, but just a sticky tread with recommendations for best places to go to get info on different gear.
What do you think?

I think a lot of the duplicate threads would be eliminated if people used the "search" function at the top. ("boot care" is a good example.)
There is no shortage of websites where people can get users reviews of all kinds of products: trailspace.com, backpackgeartest.org, backpackinglight.com, ad nauseum
On most any piece of gear, a simple Google search will turn up several URLs offering user reviews.
With so many players in the game, gear selections and offerings from various manufacturers change about every six months, so it's questionable as to whether something "permanent" (ie "sticky thread") might have more value than the existing system.
Since my own knowledge is quite limited, if I were not able to answer the same question over and over, I would have no purpose here.

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each."

Kinda like Ski said, gear changes. If you ask the same question in six months you get different opinions. UL sleeping bags for example. If you ask the same question in 6 months you'll get see new companies coming out with 32 degree mummy bags around 1 pound. I found more UL sleeping bags suggestions on the recent thread than in the one six months ago. I believe there is no stupid question. Some people just like to talk about gear.

I normally Google before i post to refine my questions, but hay thats me. I think if its a legit question then why not answer it. It might come up a few times a year, but at least helping a fellow hiker out.

And talk, and talk, and talk.
It's very nice to see someone give their experience on a related piece of gear. What's unfortunate is that some people think that they need to inject their "miracle gear" into every thread.

When you do search, most of the time you end up going through many many pages of discussions, often drifting away from the subject of your search.
What I meant is having something like this:
UL sleeping bags:
www.website
www.website
climbing boots:
www.website
www.website
etc, etc, etc...... on any subject of hiking, mountain gear
So people can add links that they think are worthy of looking at, and then it can be adjusted by removing irrelevant context. AND NO discussion , so it does not become too many pages to go through. And then separate tread can be started with specific question if people want to talk about it for 10-20 pages.
