Mechanically separated whatever! Let's face it, I think we'd all be upset if we "really" knew what was happening in these places. People who read "Fast Food Nation" often say they'll never eat fast food again. We dont really want to know what's happening.

Where does it come from? What did it eat? Antibiotics? How is it processed?
No thanks. I had friends who worked at Draper Valley.

Darn - Draper Valley is about the one chicken I'll consciously eat because its local. So don't tell us what your friends who worked there know. I don't want to know it. I won't eat "Southern Grown" because there's something weird about trucking 'fresh' chicken from ~Arkansas to sell in stores in Seattle.
I do 'enjoy' (defn: cooking and eating) getting a fresh local fryer chicken and butchering it up myself. What Draper sells in the stores will do, even gutted out. Saves lots of money opposed to buying parts. Having harvested my share of chickens as a kid I'm not put off by humanely ending life, of a chicken anyway. I suspect if you have the context of harvesting chickens you assume the farm does it in a similar way. No Tyson contractor wants it done the way the a-holes in the video did things. And even though I avoid Tyson brands because they don't operate local to me, neither do they want it done that way. Bad for business.
Read Fast Food Nation, no personal impact. Living downwind from a turkey farm for 4 years kind of put me off turkey for a while.

I guess you missed the point. It isn't the actual meat that's the mystery it's the whole industrial food chain that's clouded in mystery.

Ugh. Makes me want to go vegetarian. And read this thread again every time I get a craving for meat.
Actually, this is a good time to go veggie. I'm so sick of turkey.

If you eat food - and you haven't grown or raised it - watch Food, Inc.

Hard to tell if posters like the one above me are just that ignorant of the realities of industrial meat or are just simple trolls. Head in the sand, or head up their ass?
Anyway, an interesting multi-modal piece was recently published by Rolling Stone. Worth a read/watch.

This thread reminds me of a joke I heard.
Q: How can you tell if a person is vegan/vegetarian/organic...?
A: Just wait a few minutes and they will tell you all about it.

I'm a meat eater and I'm not rushing to gather my torch and ptchfork but...it always seems these companies wait for some independant group to point out this kind of stuff before any action is taken. Maybe they are proactive and we just don't hear about that side of things. But it sure looks like they could keep a better eye out on their contractors. Part of me wants to believe they're quick to harshly punish this kind of action but if that were true, we shouldn't be seeing it in the first place.
