Thank you for the nice comments Jim and db. I was using a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon AF-S 300mm f/4 with a 1.4 TC. This sow had 3 COYs (Cub of Year) and was photographed around Twin Lakes close to Norris. They were on one side of the 2 lane road while a group of us were on the opposite side taking the pictures. I'd guess about 70 feet away at the time. The park rangers showed up very quickly and did a great job in managing the people until the bears left the scene. You can see all my Yellowstone pictures right here.

A few months back up on Lemei Rock SW of Mt Adams. About an hour later full overcast rolled in and it dumped for a number of days up there.
Taken with a Panasonic Lumix LX-5 w/ a DMW-LWA52 wide angle lens. More details here. I'm sure there's some Photoshop foo to be applied here but I don't yet have an eye for it. somegeek

I love these threads each year. Some awesome shots in here as always. I don't think this is technically the best I took but I love it for a few reasons. It was a great trip (Death Valley NP was planned, had to make alternate plans last minute due to shutdown but it worked out great.) It was a photo I had been thinking about getting for awhile. Lastly, it was the first time I had really used the 'The Photographers Ephemeris' to setup a shot. This is the moon setting over Channel Islands NP:

eek.gif Wow.... Truly spectacular shots by all!! I too have been recovering from an injury, so no hiking for me this year... I did get into night photography - lotsa sitting on your duff. wink.gif I also found that I really enjoy the artistic and very technical aspect of shooting stars. I drove out to the Stonehenge memorial out by Goldendale and got a pretty good star trail - prob my best photo all year.

not even close to the best pic on this page, but it's so peaceful to look at.

Ericande, your shot shows excellent planning and execution.
