Deep condolences. I have not met him (not that I'm aware of, in any case) but I could tell from his reports and the reports of his trip mates that he had a great spirit and loved sharing his passion with others. I'm sad I never got to know him.

oh my god !! I am so sorry to read this news. I met Franklin once during an NWhikers event, some years ago. He was so gracious, and a talented climber. My condolences to his friends and his family.

Oh no! What a shock to read. I've known Franklin for years, and long admired his passion for the mountains, seemingly boundless energy to really get out there, and great photography. When we ran into each other we talked about climbing or skiing together and finally got out on Rock Mt. a couple weeks ago. We shared so many things he seemed like my skinnier twin and I looked forward to more great days in the mountains together. A terrible loss to our NWH group, and the wider mountain communities he was an integral part of here in the Cascades. Rest in peace brother.
