Artist Point is a pretty easy hike with a normal snowpack; with the drought conditions it was icier than when I went last year but still easy enough to get around on the ridge. Lots of people wearing snowshoes, but you didn't really need them if you don't mind sinking in a few inches every so often.
To make things more challenging we headed off to Table Mountain afterwards. By this time the sun had softened the snow quite a bit. We followed previous trailblazer's steps up the side, but soon got to a really steep part where the first couple people in our party accidentally destroyed the soft snow steps. In the rest of the group's struggle to get up this part, sometimes more snow would give way and send little chunks tumbling down the mountainside. With the snow being so soft, a fall probably wouldn't have been too bad, but it was pretty scary with the steepness plunging down to the left nonetheless. A couple people turned back where it was safe to plunge step/glissade back down and the rest of us pushed on the last 150ft for the summit.
An incredibly beautiful day with amazing views of Shuksan and Baker.
