While coming down from Pratt Peak we noticed a new trail being built from near the south end of Olallie heading west and up toward the Pratt Lake Trail. We did not see the other end opening out into the trail. There is a longstanding shortcut from Olallie Lake to the Pratt Trail strait up further north. Anyone know if FS or WTA is trying to formalize a new route? I could find nothing on WTA work parties in the area.

Jeezus. I hope not. Does it look like a real build, or a boot-leg build?

It was a real build with a WTA sign saying “under construction” we did not go up it as it was getting dark.

That might answer your question. The USFS has always planned a more robust trail system in that area. Perhaps this was planned back in the 1980’s and they’re just now getting to it. Sigh...

I always go that way when Im in the area. Infact I keep going north to the top of the ridge and scoot by Little Pratt and drop into Lower Tusco. That was always the route I took in the winter when I would snowshoe into Lower Tusco and stay in the cabin.

Yeah Joe, we always would go up the talus and down the trees.

Is that the new trail layout?

No, that doesn't show the Ollalie inlet area where the new trail is slowly being made.

catsp, that trail was proposed several years ago, and is no surprise (and it is much needed!). The one Malachai is talking about is a route between Olallie and the Pratt Trail above it.
