My wife has lived in Washington since 1989, but has never been to the rain forest. I'm hoping to remedy that this weekend, and vaguely remember a mention on here about a nice place to stay over there - some kind of lodge or something or other? Does that ring a bell with anyone, or am I mis-remembering? Something past Forks I think, since we're heading for the Hoh area.

I haven't been there, but I would guess Kalaloch Lodge is what you're thinking of. It's not far from the road going up the Hoh.

I like this place, unit number 5, right at waters edge.
while it is a way from the Hoh it makes a nice place to stay and explore from
you can drive up to the Hoh and then the next day hike to ShiShi Beach and Pt of the Arches.
The unit has a full kitchen and twin beds in the bedroom, plus a pull out sofa.
If you do stay there, Neah Bay is dry so you have to bring your own beer or wine.

Quinault Lake Lodge? Should still have some seasonal deals. Plenty of trails of all sorts that I think easily rival the Hoh.

My reccomendation would be...
I actually live close to Bullman Beach and although it would be a fantastic place to stay if you were doing Neah Bay, the Cape, Hobuck Beach and or Shi Shi and Pt. of Arches it would be the best choice. But, it is quite the drive to the Hoh Rain Forest.

Aren't all of the west slopes of the Cascades in Washington "Rain Forest"?

Kinda sorta but there are wetter forests up on the peninsula. Shouda been here yesterday though. It was a very rainy forest here.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Kalaloch Lodge (or one of the cabins there).
But even off-season it comes with a price.
60 pounds lighter but not 60 points brighter.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I never realized how many options there are. We're doing a big loop, with someplace in scenic Aberdeen tonight, then Hoh/Kahaloch tomorrow then Squim on Sunday (visiting my sister & scenic Squimmy things) and finally three days in the Hamma Hamma Cabin (which was the reason to head that way to begin with).

I stay out at Kalaloch often I follow them on Facebook and their email list for the sales. When I see a $99 a night deal, we go PS: People rag on the Seacrest Building, but it is pretty nice now, especially if you get the upstairs. The private decks with chairs are so nice off season to sit through storms.
We stay out at Lake Quinalt once a year or so as well. Again, get on those mailing lists for deals.
