After recently crashing my motorcycle (totaled) and injuring my shoulder and knee, I wasn't sure if I was up to doing big hikes again or not. But you never know until you try.

Josh and Heather joined me for an attempt of McClellan Peak in the Enchantments. We started at the Snow Creek trailhead at 5:15 am and reached upper Snow Lake by 8am, where we filtered water. We then navigated partially snowy slabs and came to the pass and Lake Viviane at 10:15am.

There were a lot of goats near the lake and several mothers with baby goats. We hiked past Leprechaun Lake up to The Prong and then scrambled the ridge over towards the summit block. We found the easiest scramble option to the summit was located on the southeast side of the block. No more than a few class 3 moves.

We arrived at the summit just before 1:00pm and spent a half hour there lounging and taking in views. I opened a celebratory Ghost Chili chocolate which Heather gave to me, and we each at a bit of it. I was happy to share this summit with two exceptional athletes before they go off in different directions for their next big adventure. I hope they will find what they are looking for and meet the goals they have set for themselves.

The snow in the lakes basin was exceptionally good, firm when we arrived and then slightly softer in the afternoon. We did several long glissades on the way down to Lake Viviane. Our hike back to the parking lot took just over 5 hours for a total trip time of 13.5 hours, and roughly 7000 feet of gain. My 44th Bulger Peak.

Nicely done. We need to get Sherpa this year to polish off the Bulgers of the Stuart Range.

Nope. All I talked to were the goats.

Good question. We thought the hole was strange looking with those cloud formations behind which is why I took the shot.

Hey, sounds bad, but you must be okay to have done this recent trip. Well done. That's awesome that neek got that shot of you all glissading down. Great send off for Josh's big adventure.

Looks like contrails or Cirrus clouds through a break in the cloud cover, Sergio. It's a very cool shot. ~z
