Just tears...of sadness, joy, gratefulness. That could so easily be me and I pray that there are kind souls around to grant me that wish. A beautiful story. Thanks for passing it on.

Thanks for posting that article BW. (Those of us in the medical profession need to realize that there is a lot more that people want in life then the stuff we push on them. With the new depersonalization of medicine caused by electronic medical recordkeeping and the desire to make money, its nice to see that there are still some caring, heartfelt, loving, and "timegiving" interactions out there!)

It is fairly common, although they usually are able to get out in pickups. I'll see guys bring their dads out and it looks like they are rescued from the nursing home for a few hours.
When you've spent most of your life working in the woods, it is hard to even think about spending a week indoors.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I took my dad to watch the fall Salmon run up the Washougal river and held him up on bridge so he could watch them jump up the falls. He was in home hospice and passed a week later.
It was something we annually went to watch over his 25 year retirement.

I can see doing that if I was in his position. Hopefully that will never be necessary.

I may short out my keyboard with tears.

Evergreen Hospital is a great organization. Their hospice care doctors, nurses and social workers have been a tremendous help in caring for my mom, dad and mother-in-law. My mom and mother -in-laws passing were difficult, but the care and compassion of the folks at evergreen eased many of the challenges.

Great story - thanks for sharing. Brings back memories of taking my dad out from the nursing home to cruise the ocean shore as he neared the end and seeing how much he appreciated it - the outdoors can be quite powerful!
