Very very sad. I was hoping this would not be the results. Rest in Peace Karen.

I am heart broken for her and all who have been touched by her. Karen was a great person and an absolutely gifted writer who could bring the beauty of the natural world alive onto paper in a way that few can. I will miss her very much. frown.gif

My condolences go out to Karen's family, friends, former colleagues at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Mountaineers, to all of us at nwhikers, and the entire Seattle hiking community. She will be missed.

RIP. I do not understand why good people with tons of friends and family that love them die while other people that nobody would miss are stuck living...

Sadness beyond words. She touched so many lives with her love of the mountains. Continued prayers and deepest sympathy to her family, friends and all who knew her. And to SAR who worked so hard to find her.

Why so sad? Be glad she lived, and touched so many lives, and in the end was where she belonged, where she wanted to be. Not very many can say that. But let's find out what happened.

Oh no! I'm so sorry for everyone's loss. I didn't know her in person, but we knew each other here and on Flickr, where we would occasionally comment on each other's photos. I wish I could have met her in real life; she sounded like a wonderful person!

R.I.P. Karen, Thank You!

I love the smell of deet in the morning. The smell, you know that deet smell, the whole mountain. Smelled like... victory.
