I'm sure her trip report on the experience will be both instructive and riveting. Keep a cool head and warm core out there Karen.

No...this can't be! I don't even want to think about what could cause her to be out for 2 nights. Am praying that her experience, gear and courage will help get her home tomorrow.

I heard from a source that the search so far has involved two helos and 35 ground personnel. Search suspended at 8PM -- to resume at 8AM -- but rain is forecast for tonight -- so here is hoping she is bunkered down in a sheltered location.

Fingers crossed: I've known and hiked with Karen since, oh, mid-80's. I was just up Owyhigh last Sunday (usual trail) with no issues.
Be safe Karen.

Sure hope Karen's okay. She's experienced and well prepared, but sometimes the mountains can throw unexpected tricks on even the best hikers, so I hope this gets happily resolved soon.

Many years ago Karen helped introduce me to hiking. Haven't seen her in years, but I think of her often when I'm in the mountains.
I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight having stumbled upon this thread while looking for ideas for this weekend's day hike.

Karen is smart, experienced and surely well-prepared ... I have high hopes that she is safe and will be found soon. 2 weeks ago we hiked almost to the lakes from SR 123 and didn't hit solid untracked snow till well past the switchbacks .. while we had a GPS to get thru the maze of trees, it was still pretty obvious where to go, though it would be ez to get off trail some, too. If this is the case, I would expect her to hunker down and wait for SAR. X'd fingers for her speedy return.

Ditto joker - I hope to hear she is alive and doing well. Crazy how this stuff happens even to the best of us. It is easy to get turned around up there if she was in the snow and off trail.

She has my prayers for a good outcome!

I hiked with Karen a couple times with the Mountaineers. Praying for a good outcome. I just hope she's not seriously injured. Hoping she's just hunkered down in a dry shelter, and can signal or something to be noticed.
