I've also hiked with Karen (and Bob) a number of times. It's not uncommon for her to say "I'm going on a little farther and will meet you in an hour." She knows what she's doing and never misses the meeting time. It hurts horribly to hear about this. Please Karen, be hunkered down with a non-life-threatening injury somewhere and let them find you tomorrow!

Thanks for that link to KOMO News' report on Karen, Layback, and thanks to Don for sharing so generously about Karen in that report. I've not met Karen, but I've appreciated her vicariously here on nwhikers.net, where her presence is so palpably calm and positive. Here's hoping for the best and for good news soon from Mount Rainier.

Sending thoughts and prayers for Karen to be found safe. From what everyone has said I am sure this will have a happy ending and one heck of a trail report.

Sending prayers your way Karen!!!! I was hiking with a friend in an area not too far away on Wednesday, and we turned around once the snow got too sketchy. Praying for a safe return so you can keep on doing what you love to do so much!

I do not know her either (other than through posts here), but this hits harder than reports of "someone" lost out there. Prayers here also.

Same here.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
