Will anyone be cranking out the miles with me to Portland this Saturday? My delusion of a cool cloudy day is evaporating with the promised heat.

I'm skipping it in favor of the RSVP2 which I enjoy much more. The STP is a bit of a madhouse for me having done it once.

You should have a tailwind. You are doing it in one day, right?

It will be a one day ride for me. I like to get the patch for completion in one day. My birthday is on the Sunday after the ride so the patch will be an early present to myself.

I liked it better when the one day riders rode on Sunday (the only 3 years I did it I left on Sunday). Was kinda fun passing all those people past Longview. Kinda gave you more motivation. It also coordinated better at the end if you were meeting up with other 2 day riders. I think they may have changed it the year after the last year I did it. I'm sure they had some reason.

Happy Birthday, and what a unique present to give yourself. I will be pulling into the beer garden hopefully around 7:30 Saturday night. Look for a guy riding a red Allez similar (but not as old as) the one Kevin Costner rode in "American Flyers". The heat could be brutal, but in my opinion, it is the third least favorite weather condition behind 1. headwind and 2. rain. Best of luck!

I'm doing it again this year with my buddy over two days. I've done it twice before in one day but last year (2 days) was actually much more enjoyable without the pressure of making the bus back home. We stopped at every stop, we got our drink on continuously and our snack on at every stop, I enjoyed the view. Yes, it's nice to get the patch but sometimes it's cool to cruise, especially with the promised heat.

I struggled through the heat and got the 1-day patch. This might have been the withering of my STP relationship however as the outing was quite grueling.

Adding congrats. The heat was terrible on Saturday. On Sunday an official told us that 137 people dropped out on Saturday due to heat stress issues. A one day in those conditions is admirable.

One day patch? I don't remember that. Must be something more recent. I did it 3 years in a row in one day from 1993-1995 and never got a patch.
