My aunt taught me to pack like this decades ago. Not just skivvies (navy term for undies), but for other clothes as well. She did lots of touring in Europe, and some guide told her about it. Takes up less space and is more free of wrinkles than conventional flat folding methods.
I roll my t-shirts from neck to hem while they lie out flat, then make a loose fold in half and drop them into my travel bag. I don't fold them in half first before rolling, because that puts a crease right down the center. I do fold jeans and other pants in half lengthwise first, however, before rolling. I do skirts the same as t-shirts. Adding socks to make a burrito is a cool idea.
