I wonder if anyone has ever camped at Middle Lakes and NOT seen bears. It's bear ground zero. Great place.

Mice are the one thing that I remember when camping there with my Dad many many years ago. There was a nice shelter there then. Rained all night when we were there too. About the same time of year. We found an old tin can and some wire and rigged a self-setting trap with peanut butter. Caught a lot of mice.

Wonderful TR and pictures, contour5! Brings back fading memories of when I was following Rowland Tabor around as one of his field assistants in 1967 in that area,"doing geology" as part of a mineral inventory before the park was created in1968. We were working, but still I thoroughly enjoyed the area. Time to go back after almost 50 years!

Great pictures, thanks. I'm noticing ss52, apparently shot from Copper Ridge, with Whatcom Peak on left skyline in the frame.
Last summer there was a discussion here questioning whether Easy Ridge was then dry, tarns evaporated.
I had been up there several times and thought the "permanent snow" to the left of the slabs would be there, accessible for drinking water. Slabs being where you ascend to the upper level from the saddle where the footpath first touches the ridge top.
ss52 picture appears to show a remnant snow patch there, center of frame (enlarged photo) if you scroll the pano to its left end.

TR is from 2014.
I'm always kinda thrilled to see my old TRs bumped back up on the list...
Thanks again for all the nice comments.

Beautiful photos. The bad weather is certainly not evident in them. And even if it was last year it's well worth another look.

That would have made a fun picture.

Wow. Beautiful photos and great trip report. Thanks for sharing!
I am wondering - has anyone been up the Indian Creek route that is described in Red Fred? I am curious how much of it is still there?
I am tempted to head this way in a few weeks once the bugs die down a bit...
Thanks!

We did not when we camped there en route to the Redoubt HR w/Ruta Lake HR exit in 2005. Maybe the lack of a bear sighting had something to do with 8 hours of constant hard rainfall. I did see a Lazuli Bunting

Beautiful photos, especially the clouds and colors reflecting in the lakes.
