Copyright and patent are both pending.

MSR currently markets the Reactor radiant burner as subject to a pending patent. Is that marketing fraud? .[/quote]
Under the old patent law this was called "false marking" and there was a private attorney general provision that allowed anyone to bring a suit and split the proceeds with the government. It became a cottage industry for bored patent attorney and the rewards were several million dollars in some prominent cases. The provision was eliminated in the last patent law "reform".

Apparently either stove will generate a lot of hot air.

Sure about that? We usually fire up a Reactor with one of these:

Maybe the spark contacts are too far up inside the tube? I can tell you from direct personal experience that the Reactor fires up fine from a mere spark.

Not me. I usually use my Reactor with the 2.5 liter pot. IMO the WindBoiler is just MSRs response to the category JetBoil created. They had to offer something in that category. The Reactor 1.0 is close, but it's not the same thing. The new offering is squarely in JetBoil's market.

Nor me. WindBoiler is substantially heavier than 1L Reactor.
Dante, re the 2.5L pot, are you with a large group or melting lots of snow?

All of the above. It also sees use as a water boiler on car camping trips. Honestly, unless I'm planning on doing real cooking, it's what I usually bring. Yes, I carry "too much stove and pot". I also carry too much sleeping pad, but I don't mind that, either.

There's got to be a significant difference between a single small spark generated by a piezo igniter and multiple bits of burning magnesium (~5000F).

If that device results in what you describe I haven't seen it. Sure looks like a single spark.
Also, I've also lit a Reactor with the spark from an empty Bic lighter.

Sorta looks like that device but smaller and I've never seen it produce a spark anywhere near the size depicted in that very effective marketing pic. Seems like mine produces 1/10th that much spark.
See my previous comment re lighting a Reactor many times with an empty Bic lighter, i.e., using only the spark mechanism.
Anyway, seems like much ado about nothing. I carry a 0.4 oz. (11g) mini Bic lighter anyway.
