Haven't done a personal trip since June! Larches changing meant it was long overdue to get out again. I'll let the pics talk. After setting camp in the Carne Basin I went up to Carne Lookout via Old Gib trail and traversed over to Carne Mountain proper.

For peak bagging types. Ice Box 8109' to Chilly Peak 7968' was a joyous Class 3/4 crestline scramble traverse. Two scramble bypasses to avoid Class 5 descents were easy to locate, and solid. One off the north side, one off the south. That brought me to Pt. 7800+ on the ridge apex of Rock Creek/Box Cr divide. The SE ridge descent (incorrectly labelled "NE" on above map, sorry) was going classic solid class 3 until a vertical step which forced me to climb back up 150 feet and detour descenders right into a solid quartz gully. Then back up th eridge crest to Pt 7919'. From there I spied the cool looking granite west face slabs of Chilly and traversed to its base. Impeccable class 3, maybe a touch of class 4 slab to the summit. Very worthwhile.

That looks like Fun! I realize you are the person we saw on the morning of September 1 in the Teanaway--we saw your summit register entry later on Volcanic neck. http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report.2014-09-02.1490262797 You are getting around to a lot of peaks!

Lovely! Matt, Iron, Carrie and Carla are hot on your heels. They made their way in today for the same peaks. Colors are spectacular. Thanks for the route info.

Nothing like picking the hard way from point A to B. But a lot less elevation loss+gain than staying on the normal high route.

Well how about that! I really enjoyed our conversation. judging from reports from here and WTA you two seem to get quite a lot yourselves! See you in the home hills sometime. John

It is all optical illusion for drama, b00. Seriously, you run up stuff all the time that has me envious! J
