Mine are.
Field of Dreams.
The Jim Piersall story.
Brians Song.
Rudy.
Tie Bull Durham and A league of their own.
May be not sports, The Legend of Bagger Vance, Sectretariat and Sea Biscut.
IMO most disappointing are. On Any Given Sunday and The Natural.

Since Slap Shot has been named already I'll go with Hoosiers.
Jimmy Chitwood "I'll make it."
On a business trip to Indianapolis a few years back I went to Butler University where the climatic state championship scenes were filmed in the movie. The gym was open and really cool to look at and walk out on the court. I found a ball and took a few shots. I was thinking at a larger school I probably would not have been able to get in the gym let alone walk on the court and shoot a few shots.

Some good ones already listed here.
Since I happen to enjoy soccer (despite FIFA), I'll add my favorite soccer movie - Gracie. Oh, and any movie that's filmed in Canmore has to be worth something, even if it's just for the scenery. Mystery Alaska!

Good topic. Lots of good ones mentioned already. I'll add several more.
Miracle (US Olympic hockey team)
Invictus (South African rugby team/apartheid/Mandela)
Glory Road (Texas Western surprising NCAA basketball championship & shattering the color barrier)
42 (Jackie Robinson, again shattering a color barrier)
The Express (Ernie Davis at Syracuse--there's something about sports movie and racial issues)
Goal! The Dream Begins (another soccer movie, the only one on my list that isn't based on a true story)

Breaking Away
Rank (it's a documentary, but I assume that counts here too, and it's about a topic I would not have expected to find so captivating for 96 minutes)

Thought of some more.
Hoop Dreams (documentary about high school basketball players)
Stick It (kinda silly but I enjoyed it, comedy about elite club level gymnastics)

Another vote for Breaking Away.
Chariots of Fire was good.

I liked Chariots of Fire, too.
I think Brian's Song about the relationship between teammates Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo, cancer victim was very moving: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068315/
