In my experience with the S100, battery life is FANTASTIC in "Av" mode, which is what I use the most. I've found battery life to be horrible in other modes, especially horrible in "auto" and "video" mode. In "Av" I get more than 400 photos per charge. Cold isn't and issue with the S100, I just keep it in my jacket until I pull it out to shoot.

S110 battery life seems pretty poor in normal circumstances. Charge it after every trip or pay the price. It only happened twice for me to figure it out.

Magellan, you using it in "auto" mode? Try using "Av" mode and see what happens.

My powershot froze up on me in Colorado around 25 degrees, i had no idea what was going on. I've also noticed short battery life while teens snowshoeing
