No plans to. Doubt I could take it. I'd be out of my mind watching her make all the stupid moves not having a clue what she was doing or getting into.

Questionable hiker

I didn't read the book, so the alleged topography drove me nuts. She started hiking like 60 miles south of Kennedy Meadows, walked through about 59 miles of desert then *wham* she was at Kennedy Meadows. Then she took a bus ride and bypassed the Sierras, walked through what could have been Oregon I suppose, then ended in a rainforest, which I assume was the area around Mt. Hood. Nice shot of The Bridge of the Gods though. MY wife said afterward that she didn't think it would inspire many people to walk the trail, especially as it is positively chockablock with drunken redneck rapists and she only ran into like 6 other thru-hikers the whole trip.

As a hiking/outdoors movie.. Lame... If maybe you can relate to the kind of mental issues she went through, then maybe worthwhile.

We saw that and I thought it was well done. If you went to watch someone hike the PCT, well that movie would have been at least 52 days long. If you went to watch someone go through a mental journey, then it was pretty good cinema.

Oh, hello Mr. Soul, I dropped by to pick up a reason For the thought that I caught that my head is the event of the season

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

Agree, I've seen it twice now. I don't think this movie will inspire hoards of wanna-be 'thru hikers'. This was a personal journey for Cheryl tho I think some scenes could have been less explicit to get the point across.. smile.gif The drug use and toenail removal were harder for me to watch.... It's been mentioned on one of the threads here, if you want a true hiking adventure movie, try "Mile....Mile and a half" about hikers on the John Muir Trail. I have it Netflixed, anxious to see it...

Yea I enjoyed this a lot more. If you have Comcast you can watch it free on demand too.

Absolutely. But that isn't what makes the movie a fun journey. Although it doesn't hurt.

So you'd say it was a movie meant to discourage females from ever going hiking, again?

The majority of the men in the movie were kind of scary, in one way or another, but I guess that's just the nature of men, right? Some of them she misjudged, the others were perhaps trying to legitimately get in her pants (a guy's got to try, right?) but maybe it was all her imagination. Or maybe it was because she was such a wanton hussy prior to the hike, and she was establishing a new understanding of herself and her place in the world and mens part in it, I don't know. Like others have said, it's not really a hiking movie, but it has stuck with me long enough and given me enough to ponder that I'd say it succeeded at being a good movie - if you can get past her hiking stupidity, which was good for a lot of laughs from the apparently outdoors savvy audience.

I read the book and then saw the movie. I'd give the movie 5 out of 10. At least by reading the book I kinda knew what was going on. If you want to see a movie about hiking the PCT, this isn't it.
